Admission information

The admission at FON University and the study process at the faculties within the University are organized according to the Law on Higher Education.
The academic year at FON costs 2000 € in MKD counter value. According to the new rulebook, the current and future students are offered several models of payment for the tuition, which is aimed at helping the future and current students!

I First option - 500 € as a deposit is paid upon the admission, i.e. upon signing the study agreement, while the remaining sum of 1.500 € can be paid in several monthly instalments.

Tuition payment in instalments - If, after the paid deposit of 500 €, one wishes to settle the remaining tuition of 1.500 € in instalments, the payment follows in 10 equal monthly instalments in the amount of 150 €. The payment of the instalments starts on September 2012 and it concludes on June 10, 2013.

- The students enrolled in the second, i.e. third admission deadline and who are not paying in full, are obliged to pay the deposit and the first (September), i.e. second (October) monthly instalment.

II Second option

- Candidates who are not able to pay a deposit of 500 € upon the admission or to pay the tuition in full, are offered a second payment option, i.e. a possibility to pay the whole amount of 2000 € in 10 equal monthly instalments of 200 €, concluding with June 10, 2013.

According to article 108 from the Law on Higher Education a person that has passed the state Matura or the international Matura can be admitted to the first cycle of university or vocational studies.
According to article 108 paragraph 2 from the Law, if there are not enough candidates, which fulfill the requirements from paragraph 1, upon the announcement for admission of students to the first cycle of university and vocational studies in the first admission deadline, persons that have passed the school Matura from a general secondary school or a final exam of the corresponding vocational secondary school with a duration of four years will also have the right to enroll to a first cycle of studies.

 

Additionally to the certificate of passed Matura, the candidates shall submit:

  • Birth certificate;
  • Citizenship certificate;
  • Secondary-school diploma;
  • School transcripts for all 4 year.

 

 

All original documents are kept in the student’s file during his studies. In the application form the student chooses the faculty he/she is applying for, as well as the language in which he/she wishes to study. The lectures at FON University are organised in Macedonian, Albanian and English language. A person that has finished secondary education abroad and which has been recognised by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Macedonia can also be admitted. Foreign citizens can also be admitted under the same requirements. The studies at FON University are personally financed. The tuition payment and the other obligations and rights of the students and the University are regulated by a Study Agreement concluded after the final ranking list of admitted candidates has been announced. Each academic year consists of two semesters (winter and summer).

 

The teaching process is organised according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). ECTS is a system for academic recognition of studies that includes:

  • informing regarding the study programs and the student’s achievement;
  • mutual trust of the faculties within the University;
  • mutual agreement with the partner institutions at the University and the other universities in the country and abroad;
  • application of credits as a measurement for students work load.

 

ECTS is applied to the study programs and course programs for:
1.Vocational education;
2.Undergraduate studies (first cycle of studies);
3.Postgraduate studies- specialist and master studies (second cycle of studies);
4.Doctoral studies (third cycle of studies);
5.Lifelong learning.

The courses of the study program of the faculties with FON University last one semester. If the nature of studies allows, the organization and the schedule of the lectures, the seminars and the tutorials can be adjusted according to the students’ needs (part time students).

The student has the right to take the exams through colloquiums. There are two colloquiums during each semester. The dates of the colloquiums are set in the working calendar of the current academic year.

The lectures and the teaching activities during one semester are organized in the following manner:

  • 6 weeks of lectures;
  • 1 week for preparation before the first colloquium;
  • 1 week for tests (,,colloquium week”);
  • 6 weeks of lectures;
  • 1 week for preparation before the second colloquium;
  • 1 week for tests (,,colloquium week”);
  • 1 week for preparation before the final exams;
  • 2 weeks for final examinations.

 

According to ECTS, the final grade for the course is deducted as a sum of points attained from:

  • colloquiums;
  • regular participation in lectures;
  • interactive behavior during lectures;
  • essays, seminar paper or project task.

 

During the studies, the students are obliged to visit practical lectures.
If the student did not take the exam through colloquiums or if it did not accumulated enough points for a passing grade, s/he has the right to take it during the examination term. For the courses studied during the winter semester, the student has the right to take the exam in the February examination term, and the exams for the courses of the summer semester can be taken in the June examination term.
The exams that are not going to be passed within these two examination terms, the student may take the exams in the September examination term.
Periodically the University can organize an additional examination term, if the ECTS coordination body decides that there is a need for such a thing.The rector makes the decision for organizing an additional examination term.
The student can be enrolled in the next year if s/he has accumulated a minimum of credits from the previous year and if s/he passes the core courses. The minimum number of credits necessary for enrolling in the next year, within all faculties at the university, is set as follows:

  • for enrolling in the second year- minimum of 30 credits in the first year;
  • for enrolling in the third year- minimum of 60 credits, 30 of each are from the second year;
  • for enrolling in the fourth year (for 4+1 studies)- minimum of 90 credits, 30 of which are from the third year of studies).

 

In respect of the students who are transferring from other higher educational institutions to FON University, the Commission for recognizing exams and the ECTS coordinator of the faculty where the student is applying to, with an appropriate decision determines the year of study they will be transferred on the grounds of the previously passed and recognized exams. If the student that did not accumulate enough credits necessary for enrolling in the next year, s/he enrolls in the previous year again. By enrolling in the previous year the students has the right to follow the lectures of the repeated courses with the new generation of students. If there are no regular lectures for those courses at the appropriate faculty, the teaching and research council of the faculty, if necessary, will reach a decision for organizing those courses.

During the semester, the student has the right to take the remaining exams through continuous evaluation or the February examination term. During the semester when s/he is repeating the previous year the student can also follow the lectures of the year s/he has not fulfilled the requirements for. If until the beginning of the February examination term the student manages to accumulate the credits necessary for enrolling in the next year, he can enroll in the next year with all the rights and obligations same as the already enrolled students.
